About Us

Since 1971, Blain has specialized in designing and manufacturing premium elevator control valves. The control valve is often the most critical component affecting the profitability of a hydraulic elevator due to its impact on installation, adjustment, and servicing costs. The EV 100 valve, in particular, can save countless hours of unnecessary work and inconvenience, both on-site and in administration.

Each year, approximately fourteen thousand EV 100 valves are purchased by customers who trust in their superior quality. Our product range continually expands with newly developed components, providing the most extensive selection of proven hydraulic control valves and options available in the elevator market.

We are also continually working on new developments and enhancements to existing products to ensure the construction of even safer and smoother running elevators.

Company History

Roy W. Blain

Blain Hydraulics is founded in 1970 by Roy W. Blain.

Born in May 1932 in Salford, Manchester, Roy W. Blain lived in Ilford, Essex, until he was six before moving back North. He later studied engineering at Salford Royal Technical College.

After serving two years in the Merchant Navy and two years in the army, he pursued a career in industrial hydraulics across England, Switzerland, Spain, the USA, and finally Germany, where he founded Blain Hydraulics, now renowned worldwide as the premier elevator control valve manufacturer.

With customers and installations in more than 75 countries, Mr. Blain was a true pioneer of hydraulic elevator technology. A true gentleman with a kind heart, he was a visionary who worked tirelessly in the hydraulic elevator industry for over five decades.

Blain Hydraulics Company History

1971-1980

Blain Hydraulics GmbH began with humble resources, as a single employee assembled elevator control valves such as the EV and KV. Gradually, the team grew to five, operating on the outskirts of Heilbronn. In response to rising demand, we relocated our factory to Heilbronn, where we embarked on a steady path of growth and expansion.

1981-1990

During this period, we added new KV models (small lift valves) to its product range, specifically to serve the market for small elevators and lifts in private residences.

Additionally, the L10 pressure lock valve was introduced as a safety valve, which is now known as the UCM-A3 valve. During this time, Blain also received CSA approval for exporting goods to North America.

Over the years, the company kept expanding to meet growing customer demand.

1991-2000

In this decade, we modernized our machinery to make production more cost-effective and efficient. The company received ISO 9001 certification and successfully obtained type certification for its rupture valves according to EU regulations. Subsequently, we also introduced the electronic servo valve (SEV) and other products such as the micro-leveling drive (MD). Additionally, accessories like the ball valve (BV) were added to the product range, further expanding Blain’s product portfolio.

2001-2010

During this period, Blain became the first company to market explosion-proof solenoid valves (MEX) for elevators. We also emerged as the world’s largest manufacturer of elevator control valves by production capacity and installations. Later, we introduced new rupture valves as well, expanding its product lineup.

2011-2020

Global Expansion and Strategic Partnerships

Our export volume began reaching record highs, enabling the company to expand its reach and now serve customers in over 75 countries. Furthermore, today, over 100 employees from more than 15 nations help support Blain’s global clientele.

Through a joint venture with YASKAWA, we introduced the EV4 (VVVF control valve) to the market.

In 2015, we expanded our presence in India by incorporating Blain India.

To increase our presence and influence in the hydraulic elevator market in Brazil and South America, we established a partnership with a Brazilian company.

Product Innovations and Technological Advancements

In the summer of 2017, Blain Hydraulics introduced the integrated valves iL10 and L20 as new UCM-A3 valves. As a result, these new valves enabled the modernization of existing installations with less effort and lower costs.

By 2018, we established Blain Turkey to expand our presence in the Middle East and Africa. Additionally, Blain Hydraulics Inc. commenced operations in the United States to support our growing North American customer base. This strategic initiative allows us to more effectively serve the North American elevator market, delivering enhanced efficiency and exceptional customer service.

Moreover, in 2019, Blain introduced the next generation of intelligent valves, offering users easy installation and monitoring via Wi-Fi using any smartphone or tablet. This new product line includes the Servo Electronic Valve (SEV) and the VVVF Valve (EV40). As a result, we became the first company to integrate smart technology into the hydraulic elevator industry.
